Digium News Release

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Digium®, Inc., the Asterisk® Company, is positioned in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Corporate Telephony in North America 20071 report that highlights and evaluates companies in corporate telephony. The placement by one of the world’s best-known research firms demonstrates the growing challenge that Digium’s open source Asterisk telephony software poses to traditional closed source telecom companies, according to the Huntsville, Ala.-based Digium.

“Open source telephony has arrived with Digium leading the way,” said Danny Windham, chief executive officer of Digium. “We think the Gartner report is recognition of what companies around the world have been realizing for themselves. Digium is clearly and uniquely positioned at the intersection of open source software and IP telephony and is a legitimate alternative to the established giants of the telecom world. At 20 to 50 percent of the cost of proprietary systems, it’s clear why so many of those companies are choosing Digium.”

Digium was founded in 1999 and has quickly grown to challenge much larger competitors as customers have embraced the extreme adaptability and cost savings of Digium’s open source products and services. Digium created, owns and leads the ongoing development of Asterisk, the world’s most successful open source communications project. Digium pioneered the open source telephony market and made Asterisk technology available under the General Public License for many small vendors. This year, more than 2.2 million people will download Asterisk software, adding more than 12 billion minutes of calls using Asterisk-powered phones and end points.
