The patents specifically relate to technology for video communications, voice over Internet protocol and instant messaging. Wainhouse Research predicts that the UC industry will reach $16.5 billion by 2012. Avistar plans to license its technology and intellectual property (IP) to other vendors in order to accelerate growth, allow rapid development of industry standards, and foster the development of new applications.

The 7 allowed patents in the United States will add to 5 recent patent additions in Europe. Avistar's IP portfolio has been a key driver in the company's growth, and has been successfully licensed to technology companies, including Tandberg, Polycom, Sony and Radvision for use in their products. Partnerships with other vendors, including IBM through its Lotus Sametime product, have brought Avistar into Fortune 500 companies to facilitate enterprise desktop videoconferencing as part of UC.

"Through these patents, Avistar is being recognized for its contribution to the mechanics that underpin many key aspects of unified communications. The new patents will give us even greater coverage of the intellectual property relevant to the UC market," said Simon Moss, CEO of Avistar. "The successes of our scientists and developers have given Avistar a powerful ability to deliver enterprise-wide desktop video as part of UC, and have put our business in a strong position to capitalize on the burgeoning demand for unified communications."

Robert Habig, Avistar's CFO, added, "Avistar has had consistent annual growth rates in revenue and income from our licensing activities exceeding 40% since 2004 -- in no small measure due to our valuable patent portfolio. Deploying our IP for competitive advantage through our own products, and sharing our technology with others through licensing and partnering arrangements, is core to our business strategy."

Forward Looking Statements

Statements made in this news release that are not purely historical, including but not limited to statements regarding expected growth in the unified communications or UC industry, Avistar's plans to license its technology, Avistar's ability to capitalize on growth in the UC industry and the benefit to Avistar of the additional patents, are forward-looking statements within the meaning of Section 21E of the Securities Exchange Act. Such statements are subject to risks and uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ materially, including such factors, among others, as difficulties and challenges associated with protecting intellectual property, the time and expense associated with enforcing or defending intellectual property rights, volatility in Avistar's sales and licensing activities, market acceptance of Avistar's products and increased competition in the market for unified communications. As a result of these and other factors, Avistar expects to experience significant fluctuations in its licensing activities and operating results, and there can be no assurance that Avistar's future results will meet expectations. These and other risk factors are discussed in Avistar's Annual Report on Form 10-K and Quarterly Reports on Form 10-Q filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission from time to time. Avistar disclaims any intent or obligation to update these forward-looking statements.

About Avistar Communications Corporation

Avistar is working to define the future of unified communications and collaboration by inventing and delivering integrated visual communications software that helps companies of all sizes improve business results. From the desktop, from the laptop and from conference rooms, Avistar delivers enterprise-quality and easy-to-use audio/video conferencing, multi-party videoconferencing, and integrated data sharing anywhere in the world. "We continue to be impressed with the ways in which developers, partners and customers are using Asterisk to tackle business and social problems that would otherwise be too cost prohibitive or time consuming to address."

Winners of the 2007 Digium Innovation Award are:

Big Business:
Aheeva (Montreal, Canada), selected for its Aheeva Contact Center Suite (CCS) that enables clients to establish a superior full-service contact center for a fraction of the investment required to operate a traditional telephony switch-based call center. This 1200 agent call center utilizes 28 T1's, handles over 50,000 outbound calls per day, and is based in multiple locations. The flexibility of Asterisk has allowed Aheeva to create a multimedia customer contact and relations management platform that can be deployed quickly and easily integrate with other open source peripherals to meet changing contact center needs. The company leveraged input from the global Asterisk community and, in the true spirit of open source, gave a portion of the resulting work back to the community. For more information about Aheeva, please visit www.aheeva.com.

Return on Investment/Cost Savings:
OneBizTone (Laureldale, PA), selected for working with the University of Pennsylvania to migrate more than 10,000 voicemail users off a discontinued and unsupported legacy voicemail system. OneBizTone used Asterisk to develop a highly scalable unified voicemail system that could easily integrate legacy telephony services and existing electronic messaging systems and store "years's of voicemail messages. The new Asterisk-based system was deployed for approximately $2000 versus traditional systems that cost $250,000 and only store hours of messages. All enhancements made to Asterisk as part of this initiative were graciously contributed back to the open source community by the University of Pennsylvania. For more information about OneBizTone, please visit www.onebiztone.com.

Pioneer:
SheltonJohns (Marietta, Georgia) selected for using Asterisk to design and deploy a turn-key, campus-wide VoIP network for Life University that includes 500+ handsets across eight structures aggregated into a redundant Asterisk server platform with 380 concurrent call paths. The new Asterisk-based system supplies significant flexibility and a dramatic expansion of feature-sets including Follow-Me, System-wide directory and remote administration. The new system also reduced Life University's monthly DIA and dial-tone bills from $18,000 to $8000, a yearly cost savings of $120,000. For more information about SheltonJohns, please visit www.sheltonjohns.com.

Most Unique:
iPLATEu, selected for inventing the first-ever social platform for motorists using anonymous, mobile-to-mobile voice messaging through license plate numbers. Created by developer Greg Beliczynski as a thesis project for NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program, the iPLATEu hotline (888-iPLATEu) employs a hands-free, IVR menu system so that motorists can "plate" each other while driving safely with both hands behind the wheel.
Built with Asterisk and LumenVox's 7.5 Speech Recognition Engine, iPLATEu can be used by speaking the license plate number into the IVR using phonetic words or texting the license plate number in after leaving a message. Recipients get voice messages directly to their mobile phones only if they have pre-registered with the iPLATEu website: www.iplateu.com.

Service Provider:
Super Technologies (Pensacola, FL) selected for providing Asterisk open source VoIP services to wholesale telephony service providers in 98 countries. Asterisk is used by 78% of the 7000+ internet telephony service providers using DIDX.net to buy and/or sell direct inward dialing phone numbers. The scalability and flexibility of Asterisk has enabled DIDX to guarantee lower costs to its customers and create new revenue streams worldwide. They bought an open source project [trixbox/asterisk@home] and then turned it into a proprietary product. What we are trying to do is go the other way. The placement by one of the world’s best-known research firms demonstrates the growing challenge that Digium’s open source Asterisk telephony software poses to traditional closed source telecom companies, according to the Huntsville, Ala.-based Digium.

“Open source telephony has arrived with Digium leading the way,” said Danny Windham, chief executive officer of Digium. “We think the Gartner report is recognition of what companies around the world have been realizing for themselves. Digium is clearly and uniquely positioned at the intersection of open source software and IP telephony and is a legitimate alternative to the established giants of the telecom world. At 20 to 50 percent of the cost of proprietary systems, it’s clear why so many of those companies are choosing Digium.”

Digium was founded in 1999 and has quickly grown to challenge much larger competitors as customers have embraced the extreme adaptability and cost savings of Digium’s open source products and services. Digium created, owns and leads the ongoing development of Asterisk, the world’s most successful open source communications project. Digium pioneered the open source telephony market and made Asterisk technology available under the General Public License for many small vendors. This year, more than 2.2 million people will download Asterisk software, adding more than 12 billion minutes of calls using Asterisk-powered phones and end points.

About the Magic Quadrant

The Magic Quadrant is copyrighted 2007 by Gartner, Inc. and is reused with permission. The Magic Quadrant is a graphical representation of a marketplace at and for a specific time period. Partner up for IVR application for Asterisk PBX
PITTSBURGH, PA--(Marketwire - August 21, 2007) - Cepstral LLC and Digium Inc., working with popular IVR voice talent Allison Smith, have partnered to produce a Text-to-Speech (TTS) version of Allison's ubiquitous IVR voice. Allison is the default voice of the Asterisk® open-source telephone system, with millions of installed copies. Allison's voice can be found on systems for Verizon, Qwest, Cingular, Bank of America, Marriott Hotels, eBay, 3M, and other high-profile companies.

Now, developers can mix recorded Allison prompts with dynamic information, such as appointment or account information that cannot be prerecorded. This development enables the deployment of revenue-generating applications that seamlessly deliver high-quality recorded prompts with dynamic real-time information in the same familiar, natural high-quality voice.

Currently, IVR application developers generally have to choose between natural human sounding recorded prompts and computer-generated TTS prompts. When applications try to mix different human and computer voices, the effect can be jarring causing low user acceptance rates. While many TTS voices sound human-like, Allison is the first TTS voice captured using Cepstral's new VoiceForge™ technology. This allows applications to share static and dynamic announcements in the same user-friendly voice. "I'm excited that more IVR applications using my voice will be used in the world's most popular open source telephone system," said Allison Smith.

Allison is the first voice created automatically using VoiceForge, a new tool from Cepstral to capture and create unique voices. VoiceForge is a breakthrough for any company, entertainer, or brand manager interested in voice cloning their talent, banking a celebrity voice for an estate, or extending a franchise to include dynamic features such as audio blogs, VoIP announcements, SMS-to-Voice, Text-to-Podcast, custom ring tones, etc. "We created VoiceForge to enable rapid deployment of TTS voices based on actual human voices, and using the most popular IVR voice was a natural first implementation. But the possibilities are limitless," said Cepstral CEO Craig Campbell.

The use of VoiceForge to clone a synthetic copy of Allison's voice is a breakthrough for the Asterisk community. Developers no longer have to choose between prerecorded and dynamic prompts. The potential for creative applications using the world's most popular IVR voice in the most popular open source telephone system has been greatly expanded. "Many customers require dynamic information and are already using Cepstral's TTS voices. The addition of a synthesized version of our flagship voice, Allison Smith, enhances the caller experience and will further spur the deployment of applications on the Asterisk platform," said Jim Webster, Director of Technology Partnerships at Digium.

About Cepstral LLC

Cepstral is a speech technology company based in Pittsburgh, PA, USA, which provides speech technologies and services for the spoken delivery of information. Partners with Digium, Inc., the Asterisk Company
DALLAS, TX--(Marketwire - June 27, 2007) - IP Global Voice Inc., the VoIP subsidiary of NewMarket Technology Inc. (OTCBB: NMKT), announces market and product expansion with Asterisk, the "open source" standard for telecommunications systems. The IP Global Voice, Inc. product line is marketed under the Xiptel brand name. IP Global Voice has entered into a contract with Digium, Inc., the Asterisk company and the original creator and primary developer of the industry's first open source telephony platform. IP Global Voice has earned the coveted "dCAP" certification from Digium, and is positioned as Digium's key certified partner located in Northern California.

IP Global Voice currently contributes approximately $10 million in annual profitable sales to NewMarket's overall revenue. Last year, NewMarket reported $77.6 million in annual revenue with $5 million in net income. The partnership with Digium can substantially accelerate the expansion of IP Global Voice's VoIP Small and Medium Business (SMB) market share.

Asterisk has many hundreds of motivated and qualified professionals and engineers contributing daily to its development. Unlike proprietary closed systems like Cisco, Avaya, Nortel, and Alcatel, which tend to be more expensive and less flexible, XIPTEL's focus on Asterisk lowers costs, and takes maximum advantage of the enormous flexibility built into the Asterisk ecosystem.

"IP Global Voice offers a wide range of hosted and premise based telephone services," said Peter Geddis, CEO for IP Global Voice. "Open source technologies and developments are changing the way businesses are built. From desk top applications to core systems including telephone and data network applications, the open source direction is taking off like wildfire. Virtually every major carrier and service provider has Asterisk working in their lab or in field tests. The large legacy companies know it's coming and they are desperately trying to figure out how to defend themselves. It's clearly a case of 'get on board or get out of the way.'"

Asterisk, coupled with other open source technologies, is a lower cost, highly flexible replacement for expensive software platforms, similar to the one on which the XIPTEL offering was originally launched. The old one will be replaced. This is not the company's first move in the open source direction. XCCP, XIPTEL's back office system designed and built internally from the ground up, is a high performance, easily scalable environment built entirely on proven open source technologies, using Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. XCCP has been running XIPTEL's back office with key functions since early 2006.

To be added to NewMaket's e-mail list for shareholders and interested investors, please send an e-mail to ir@newmarkettechnology.com.

About IP Global Voice, Inc.
